A scientific visit by students of the Environmental Health Department to the Oncology and Nuclear Medicine Hospital

Under the direct guidance of the Dean of the College of Environmental Sciences, Professor Dr. Muthanna Jassim Al-Tai, and the supervision of the Head of the Environmental Health Department, Dr. Mohammed Yahya Alawi, and as part of the department’s ongoing efforts to enhance students’ practical training, second-year students, accompanied by several faculty members, conducted a scientific visit to the Oncology and Nuclear Medicine Hospital.

This scientific visit to the Oncology and Nuclear Medicine Hospital was a valuable educational opportunity for students, particularly in the medical, health, and scientific fields. The primary objective of the visit was to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application in a specialized and realistic environment. The hospital provided students with access to the equipment used in tumor diagnosis. The visit included a tour of the hematology and endocrinology laboratories, including the thyroid hormone testing lab and the tumor marker laboratory. Students observed firsthand how samples are analyzed to detect cancer-related biomarkers. Through this visit, the students gained a deeper understanding of the treatment path for patients, from diagnosis to different treatment options (such as chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and nuclear medicine). This visit also contributed to stimulating the students’ scientific curiosity and raised their awareness of the importance of integrated healthcare for cancer patients.
