A scientific workshop was held at the Faculty of Environmental Sciences on Vitamin D3 deficiency.

Under the patronage of Professor Dr. Waheed Mahmoud Al-Ibrahimi, President of the University of Mosul, and under the supervision of Professor Dr. Muthanna Jassim Al-Tai, Dean of the College of Environmental Sciences, the College of Environmental Sciences/Department of Climate Change, in cooperation with the University of Mosul/Department of Studies and Planning/Sustainable Development Unit, held a workshop entitled “Vitamin D3 Deficiency and its Impact on Public Health.”

The workshop included an introduction to Vitamin D3 and its functions in the body, such as regulating calcium and phosphorus balance, stimulating calcium absorption, and supporting brain health. It also discussed the causes of this vitamin deficiency, including insufficient sun exposure, aging, and obesity. The symptoms and signs of Vitamin D3 deficiency in adults and children were explained, including delayed growth and weakened immunity in general. Treatment for each cause of Vitamin D3 deficiency was also discussed. The workshop contributed to three Sustainable Development Goals: Goal 2 (Zero Hunger), Goal 3 (Good Health and Well-being), and Goal 4 (Quality Education).
