Under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Environmental Sciences, Dr. Muthanna Jassim Al-Tai, and with the attendance of the Head of the Department of Environmental Technologies, Assistant Professor Dr. Hazem Jumaa Mahmoud, a seminar entitled “The Harms and Benefits of Chemical Substances” was held in the Department of Environmental Technologies. The seminar was presented by Ms. Alaa Jassim Mohammed, a faculty member in the Department of Environmental Technologies at our college.

The seminar addressed the benefits of chemicals, highlighting their crucial role in industry, where they are used in the production of numerous products such as plastics, fertilizers, pharmaceuticals, and cleaning materials. They are also used in medicine to produce drugs and medical treatments, aiding in the treatment of various diseases. In agriculture, chemicals are used in the production of fertilizers and pesticides, contributing to increased agricultural output. In the environment, chemicals can be used in water and air treatment, helping to protect the environment. However, the use of chemicals can also have harmful effects. Some chemicals can be toxic or carcinogenic, impacting human health. Furthermore, chemicals can pollute water, air, and soil, negatively affecting the environment and ecosystems. Chemicals can cause industrial accidents, resulting in loss of life and property.
