Under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Environmental Sciences, Professor Dr. Muthanna Jassim Al-Tai, and with the follow-up of the Head of the Department of Environmental Technologies, Assistant Professor Dr. Hazem Jumaa Mahmoud, and as part of the scientific activities of the Department of Environmental Technologies, a scientific visit was organized today, Tuesday, December 16, 2025, for second-year students to the Mosul Dam power stations, accompanied by a select group of faculty members from the department. This visit aimed to enhance practical knowledge and connect theoretical concepts with real-world applications.

The visit included learning about the dam’s operational mechanisms and its role in generating clean electricity, as well as understanding the environmental and engineering aspects related to water resource management and sustainability. Comprehensive explanations were provided, which broadened the students’ horizons and strengthened their understanding of the role of major strategic projects in achieving sustainable development, in line with the nature of environmental studies and its scientific requirements. This visit aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 4 (Quality Education) by supporting applied education and developing students’ field skills; Goal 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy) by exploring renewable energy production from water resources; Goal 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure) by highlighting the role of dams as strategic infrastructure projects; and Goal 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities) by showcasing the contribution of clean energy to urban sustainability.

This visit reflects the college and department’s commitment to preparing students with a comprehensive scientific and practical understanding, enabling them to actively contribute to environmental protection and support sustainable development in Iraq.
