A scientific workshop was held at the College of Environmental Sciences on cyber extortion and the reasons for its spread within society.

The Women’s Affairs Committee at the College of Environmental Sciences, University of Mosul, in cooperation with the Continuing Education Unit and the Psychological Counseling and Educational Guidance Division at the college, and in coordination with the Nineveh Police Directorate, held an awareness workshop on Thursday, December 18, 2025, entitled:
“Electronic Blackmail and the Reasons for its Spread in Society.”
The workshop was presented by Major Hardan Mohammed Khalaf from the Nineveh Police Command, who reviewed the awareness and legal aspects related to cyber blackmail crimes, their psychological and social effects, methods of prevention, official reporting mechanisms, and the correct procedures for dealing with such cases.
The workshop aimed to enhance community awareness of the dangers of electronic blackmail, protect individuals from its risks, especially students, and support a safe educational environment based on the responsible use of digital technologies.
The workshop also contributed to achieving five Sustainable Development Goals:
Goal 4 (Quality Education), Goal 5 (Gender Equality), Goal 10 (Reduced Inequalities), Goal 16 (Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions), and Goal 17 (Partnerships for the Goals). In conclusion, Mr. Assistant Dean for Administrative Affairs, Dr. Omar Idris Saleh Al-Maamari, presented a letter of thanks and appreciation to Major Hardan Muhammad Khalaf.
