A scientific workshop was held at the College of Environmental Sciences on the Tigris River, focusing on regional pressures and climate change.

Under the patronage of Professor Dr. Waheed Mahmoud Al-Ibrahimi, President of the University of Mosul, and the supervision of Professor Dr. Muthanna Jassim Al-Tai, Dean of the College of Environmental Sciences, the College of Environmental Sciences/Department of Environmental Health, in cooperation with the University of Mosul/Department of Studies and Planning/Sustainable Development Unit, held a scientific workshop entitled “The Tigris River Between Regional Pressures and Climate Change: Water Security Challenges in Iraq.” The workshop addressed a number of important scientific topics. Assistant Lecturer Salem Rabie Zannad presented a lecture on the impact of climate change on the Tigris River, highlighting its repercussions on water levels and surface runoff, and the resulting environmental and economic challenges.
Assistant Lecturer Rand Ataba Farqad also presented a lecture on regional pressures and the role of upstream countries in influencing the Tigris River, reviewing the geopolitical dimensions of shared water management and its implications for water security in Iraq. The workshop targeted five Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs 6, 11, 12, 13, and 17).
