Scientific visit to the Geotechnical Laboratory – College of Engineering, Department of Civil Engineering/University of Mosul

Under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Environmental Sciences, Professor Dr. Muthanna Jassim Al-Tai, and with the follow-up of the Head of the Department of Environmental Technologies, Assistant Professor Dr. Hazem Jumaa Mahmoud, and within the framework of the scientific activities of the Department of Environmental Technologies, a scientific visit was organized on Thursday, December 11, 2025, for second-year students, accompanied by a group of faculty members, to the Geotechnical Laboratory for Soil Testing at the College of Engineering, Department of Civil Engineering, as part of the practical program for the Soil Physics course.

The visit included introducing the students to the equipment used in the laboratory, showing them the most important tests performed on different types of soil, and providing a detailed explanation of the importance of these tests in engineering and environmental applications.

This visit aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 4 (Quality Education), by promoting practical learning and linking theoretical knowledge with field application; Goal 9 (Infrastructure, Industry, and Innovation), by exposing students to modern laboratory techniques used in soil assessment; Goal 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), as soil testing is fundamental to establishing safe and sustainable infrastructure; and Goal 15 (Life on Land), by understanding soil characteristics and managing them to achieve optimal use of Earth’s resources.

These activities reflect the department’s and college’s commitment to developing students’ field skills and preparing them to be active participants in building a scientific community capable of meeting the demands of modern development.
