In accordance with the directives of the President of the University of Mosul, Professor Dr. Waheed Mahmoud Al-Ibrahimi, and within the framework of the university’s vision to enhance environmental sustainability and expand green spaces, and under the direct supervision of the Dean of the College of Environmental Sciences, Professor Dr. Muthanna Jassim Al-Tai, the College of Environmental Sciences participated today, Monday, December 22, 2025, in a large-scale tree-planting campaign launched by the University of Mosul to implement the Rawanka Forest Project.

This campaign was conducted in cooperation with the Rawanka Foundation, and involved planting 3,500 trees on the slopes of the hill belonging to the College of Veterinary Medicine. A number of faculty members, staff, and students from the College of Environmental Sciences participated, in coordination with relevant university departments.

The campaign aims to increase vegetation cover within the university campus, improve the environmental and climatic conditions, and contribute to mitigating the effects of climate change and desertification. It also aims to enhance the aesthetic appeal of the university environment and create green spaces that contribute to a healthy and sustainable environment for students and staff. The campaign organizers emphasized that the tree-planting site was chosen after an environmental study aimed at maximizing the use of available space and ensuring the sustainability of the planted trees, while also considering plant species suitable for the local environment and their ability to adapt to climatic conditions.

The College of Environmental Sciences’ participation in this campaign aligns with its academic and scientific role in raising environmental awareness, applying theoretical concepts in practice, and fostering a culture of volunteerism and social responsibility among students.

At the campaign’s conclusion, participants commended the active role of the University of Mosul’s administration and the Rawanke Foundation in supporting environmental initiatives, stressing the importance of continuing such activities that contribute to building a sustainable environmental future and solidify the university’s position as a leading educational institution serving the community and the environment.
