The Faculty of Environmental Sciences is organizing a scientific workshop on opportunities to develop the skills of educational staff through European Union programs.

The College of Environmental Sciences at the University of Mosul, through its Studies and Planning Division, Sustainable Development Liaison, in cooperation with the Scholarships and Cultural Relations Department and the Studies and Planning Department/Sustainable Development Unit, held a scientific workshop on Sunday, December 15, 2025, entitled:

“Opportunities for Developing the Skills of Educational Staff through European Union Programs and Projects: An Introduction to Erasmus Mundus Programs and the John Monnet Programs.”

The workshop aimed to highlight the academic opportunities available for pursuing postgraduate studies outside Iraq at European Union universities, as well as to introduce the most important educational and research programs and projects that support capacity building and skills development for educational staff, particularly in the fields of sustainability and higher education.

The workshop addressed several key topics, including:
Mechanisms for benefiting from international scholarship programs.

Opportunities for participating in research projects funded from outside Iraq.

An introduction to Erasmus Mundus activities and the John Monnet Programs and their role in supporting education and scientific research.

The workshop was presented by Dr. [Name of presenter missing in original text]. Ali Nadhir Abdulbaqi,
M.M. Ahmed Mohammed Hamed,
M.M. Salem Rabie Khalaf,
presented a comprehensive scientific presentation supported by practical experiences and information on how to apply for and benefit from these programs.

The workshop witnessed attendance and interaction from faculty members and researchers, who emphasized the importance of such events in promoting international academic exchange and raising the efficiency of teaching staff, in line with the University of Mosul’s vision of supporting sustainable development and advancing the educational and research process. The workshop also achieved five Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs 4, 8, 9, 10, and 17). In conclusion, the Assistant Dean for Scientific Affairs, Dr. Mohammed Waleed Saeed Al-Abbasi, presented a letter of thanks and appreciation to Dr. Ali Nadhir Abdulbaqi and Mr. Ahmed Mohammed Hamed.
