Work begins on the Al-Rahma Bridge at the Faculty of Environmental Sciences in the Batnaya region.

Under the patronage of the University President, Professor Dr. Waheed Mahmoud Al-Ibrahimi, and the supervision of the Dean of the College of Environmental Sciences, Professor Dr. Muthanna Jassim Al-Tai, the College of Environmental Sciences participated in the Mercy Bridge project in the Batnaya region. This participation, part of the college’s humanitarian and community outreach efforts, stemmed from its academic mission to support sustainable development initiatives and serve the local community. The aim of this participation was to contribute to alleviating human suffering and strengthening the spirit of social solidarity, particularly in areas that have experienced exceptional circumstances in recent years.
The college’s participation included contributing to several field and awareness-raising activities through the involvement of faculty members, staff, and students. These activities highlighted environmental and health aspects related to improving services and living conditions in the region, as well as raising awareness about the importance of preserving the environment and natural resources. The activities also included specialized fieldwork involving precise environmental measurements, such as assessing air quality and measuring noise pollution levels at various locations. Additionally, water and soil samples were analyzed to determine nitrate and salt concentrations using scientifically approved instruments and measurements.
These measures aim to diagnose the environmental situation in the area and identify potential sources of pollution, contributing to the development of accurate scientific indicators that will help relevant authorities take appropriate action to address environmental problems and mitigate their health and environmental impacts. This participation also reflects the college’s practical role in bridging the gap between academic study and fieldwork, providing students with hands-on experience in environmental monitoring and on-site assessment methods.
These efforts are part of the support for the Mercy Bridge project and its humanitarian and developmental goals, aligning with the University of Mosul’s vision of serving the local community and utilizing scientific expertise to achieve a healthy, safe, and sustainable environment. This initiative has already contributed to six Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs 3, 4, 6, 9, 11, and 17).
