Participation of the Dean of the College of Environmental Sciences in the discussion committee of a master’s thesis focusing on the effectiveness of the collaborative learning strategy in students’ achievement in biology.

The Dean of the College of Environmental Sciences, Professor Muthanna Jassim Al-Taie, participated in and supervised the discussion of a master’s thesis at the College of Education for Pure Sciences, Department of Life Sciences, University of Mosul. The thesis, presented by student Muhammad Mohsen Amin, was titled “The Effectiveness of the Collaborative Learning Strategy on Second-Year Intermediate Students’ Achievement in Biology and the Development of Their Creative Motivation.” The thesis was held on Tuesday, September 2, 2025.
The discussion committee was chaired by Assistant Professor Dr. Mareb Muhammad Ahmad, and included Assistant Professor Dr. Nasser bin Salim B. Nasser from the University of Nizwa, Oman, and Assistant Professor Dr. Radwan Muhammad Mustafa. The committee was also supervised and joined by Professor Dr. Muthanna Jassim Muhammad and Assistant Professor Dr. Aziz Muhammad Ali.
The study aimed to identify the effectiveness of the collaborative learning strategy on second-grade middle school students’ achievement in biology and developing their creative motivation. The research population consisted of (5,101) second-grade middle school students distributed across (83) middle and secondary day schools for boys affiliated with the General Directorate of Education of Nineveh Governorate / Tal Afar Education Department for the academic year (2024-2025). The researcher conducted equivalence operations between the two groups on variables (chronological age in months, science subject grade, general average score, intelligence test score, parents’ educational level, and a pre-tested creative motivation scale). This participation comes within the framework of scientific and academic cooperation between the faculties of the University of Mosul, supporting the progress of scientific research and the exchange of expertise between different disciplines. This participation achieved two of the Sustainable Development Goals: Goal 4 (Quality Education) and Goal 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).
