About The Environmental Health Department

About the department

It is one of the four main scientific departments in the College of Environmental Sciences. It was established in the academic year 2023-2024. The department seeks to develop the scope of environmental health education and raises awareness in the field of human health and mutual relations with its environment, as it addresses a variety of issues related to the environment and community health that concern individuals through the department’s learning outputs, in addition to the workshops, courses, and seminars held by the department.

The Department of Environmental Health offers a group of disciplines concerned with the environment and health for the purpose of improving the health and well-being of the population by raising the quality of living in order to develop complex processes that keep pace with the challenges facing the world at the present time and which enable students to develop proficiency in a wide range of environmental health skills. Also, it includes management of public health dealing with infectious diseases, epidemics, community health, primary health care, toxins, food safety, and hazardous factors, including chemical, biological, and radiological contaminants.

There are many jobs available to graduates of this department in the public and private sectors, including governmental institutions and non-governmental companies, from oil and industry to agricultural and health fields, including the following:

  • The Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research.
  • The Iraqi Ministry of Environment.
  • An environmental observer in the environmental departments of the Ministries of Health, Agriculture, Industry, Minerals, Oil, Electricity, and Water Resources.
  • Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs.
