“The Drug Problem: Between Reality and Ambition” – A Seminar at the College of Fine Arts

Under the patronage of Professor Dr. Wahid Mahmoud Al-Ibrahimi, President of the University of Mosul, and the supervision of Professor Dr. Hamid Ibrahim Al-Rashidi, Dean of the College of Fine Arts, a seminar titled “The Drug Problem: Between Reality and Ambition” was held today, Wednesday, November 19, 2025. The event was part of the Iraqi Anti-Drug Week activities, organized in cooperation with the Directorate of Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances Affairs in Nineveh.
The seminar, held at the Jalal Jameel Hall, included a visit to an awareness poster exhibition highlighting the dangers of drugs, attended by the Dean, faculty members, and students. The session featured presentations by Colonel Abdullah Ali Saleh, Assistant Director of Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances Affairs, and Mr. Fallah Mahdi Saleh, Director of the Directorate’s Media Office. The session was moderated by Assistant Professor Dr. Zaid Tariq Fadhil, with Mr. Othman Hudhayfah Saeed serving as the rapporteur.
The seminar aimed to raise awareness among students and staff about the hazards of drug addiction and its psychological, health, and social impacts. As drug abuse has become a critical issue threatening society, particularly the youth, the seminar emphasized the need for collective cooperation to combat it and outlined the necessary measures to mitigate its risks on individuals, families, and the community. At the conclusion of the event, the speakers were honored with certificates of appreciation for their valuable contributions.
