“A scientific symposium on ‘Art and Society: A Mutual Influence Towards Progress and Awareness'”

Under the patronage of Professor Dr. Wahid Mahmoud Al-Ibrahimi, President of the University of Mosul, and under the supervision of Professor Dr. Hamid Ibrahim Al-Rashidi, Dean of the College of Fine Arts, the college—in cooperation with the Studies and Planning Department / Sustainable Development Unit at the University of Mosul—organized a scientific symposium titled “Art and Society: A Mutual Influence Towards Progress and Awareness” today, Sunday, December 28, 2025, at the Jalal Jamil Hall. The event was attended by the Associate Dean for Scientific Affairs, along with a number of college staff members and students.
The lectures were delivered by Dr. Samir Riyadh Mamdoh, Assistant Professor Hana Khader Yousif, Lecturer Zainab Saad Ezzeddin, and Assistant Lecturer Mohammed Tahseen Jamal.
The symposium aimed to emphasize the dialectical relationship between art and society by approaching the arts as a critical tool that does not merely reflect social reality, but rather reshapes the conditions of its perception and representation, thereby contributing to the production of critical awareness and opening horizons for progress. Furthermore, the symposium sought to highlight how artistic practice, both globally and in the Arab world, transforms into an epistemological and ethical necessity within contexts of transformation and trauma, through specific artistic models and works. This initiative was held in pursuit of the Sustainable Development Goals: SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), and SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities).
