Scientific Seminar: Art and Society – Mutual Influence Towards Progress and Awareness

Under the patronage of Professor Dr. Wahid Mahmoud Al-Ibrahimi, President of the University of Mosul, and under the supervision of Professor Dr. Hamid Ibrahim Al-Rashidi, Dean of the College of Fine Arts, the College, in cooperation with the Studies and Planning Department / Sustainable Development Unit at the University of Mosul, held a scientific seminar titled “Art and Society: A Mutual Influence Towards Progress and Awareness.” The event took place today, Sunday, December 28, 2025, at the Jalal Jamil Hall, and was attended by the Associate Dean for Scientific Affairs, alongside a number of faculty members, staff, and students of the college. The lectures were delivered by Dr. Samir Riad Mamdouh, Assistant Professor Hana Khader Youssef, Lecturer Zainab Saad Ezzedine, and Assistant Lecturer Mohammed Tahseen Jamal.

The seminar aimed to emphasize the dialectical relationship between art and society by approaching the arts as a critical tool that does not merely reflect social reality, but rather reshapes the conditions of its perception and representation, thereby contributing to the production of critical awareness and opening horizons for progress. Furthermore, it sought to highlight how artistic practice—both globally and regionally—transforms into an epistemological and ethical necessity within contexts of transformation and trauma, through specific artistic models and works. These objectives align with achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically Goal 4 (Quality Education), Goal 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), and Goal 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities).
