The College of Fine Arts Holds a Seminar on Symbol and Signification in Islamic Miniatures

The Department of Fine Arts at the College of Fine Arts held a specialized academic seminar today, Monday, March 2, 2026, entitled “The Art of Islamic Miniatures: A Reading of Symbol and Signification,” in the presence of the Scientific Assistant and a number of faculty members and staff.
The seminar featured lectures delivered by Assistant Professor Yasser Ibrahim, Assistant Professor Maida Tariq, and Assistant Lecturer Ruwaida Waadallah, who shed light on the historical and artistic dimensions of this rich art form. The session aimed to introduce attendees to the characteristics of miniature art and how to interpret the symbolic and aesthetic connotations hidden behind the lines and colors that distinguished Islamic manuscripts across the ages. This was complemented by insightful interventions and discussions that enriched the topic, emphasizing the importance of invoking Islamic artistic heritage through a contemporary critical perspective that bridges authenticity with artistic symbolism.
