Mosul Studies Center Holds Workshop on the Causes of Suicide and Ways to Reduce It

Under the patronage of Professor Dr. Waheed Mahmoud Al-Ibrahimi, President of the University of Mosul, and the supervision of Assistant Professor Dr. Mohammed Nizar Al-Dabbagh, Director of the Mosul Studies Center, and in cooperation with the Department of Studies and Planning – Sustainable Development Unit/Presidency of the University of Mosul, and based on the instructions of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research – Department of Media and Government Communication regarding the implementation plan of the National Strategy for Suicide Prevention, the Mosul Studies Center at the University of Mosul held a scientific workshop entitled, “Suicide: Causes, Effects, and Methods of Prevention.” The workshop was presented by Professor Dr. Huda Yassin Yousef and Assistant Professor Dr. Hanaa Jassim Al-Sabaawi, and moderated by Mr. Mahdi Saleh Saeed. The two researchers addressed the definition of the phenomenon of suicide and the reasons that lead to its spread in societies, including psychological, social, economic, and health factors, as well as its effects on the family and society. This was followed by a detailed presentation on methods of prevention, including promoting mental health among individuals, providing family and social support, and raising awareness in the community to reduce the spread of this phenomenon in Mosul society, thus contributing to the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goals 3, 4, 5, and 10.
