Master’s Thesis Defense at the College of Nursing, University of Mosul, on Nurses’ Competence in Palliative Care for Children with Cancer

In the presence of the Dean of the College of Nursing at the University of Mosul, Asst. Prof. Dr. Tahsein Muhsin Hussein, along with the Associate Dean for Administrative and Financial Affairs, Dr. Rayan Ibrahim Khalil, and the Associate Dean for Scientific Affairs, Students, and Postgraduate Studies, Dr. Hanaa Hussein Mukhlif, the master’s thesis defense of student Evette Talal Bako was held on Sunday morning, August 17, 2025, at the Discussion Hall of the College of Nursing / University of Mosul.

The thesis was entitled:
“The Effectiveness of an Educational Program on Nurses’ Competence Regarding Palliative Care for Children with Cancer in Mosul City Hospitals.”

This study falls within the framework of enhancing the quality of education and achieving the fourth Sustainable Development Goal (Quality Education). It aimed to assess the role of educational programs in improving nurses’ competence in providing palliative care for children with cancer— a vulnerable group requiring specialized professional and humanitarian care.

The research findings demonstrated that the educational program significantly improved nurses’ knowledge and skills, positively impacting the quality of palliative care delivered to pediatric patients.

The examination committee consisted of:

• Asst. Prof. Dr. Rami Ramadan Allo – Member / College of Nursing – University of Mosul
• Lect. Dr. Luay Amjad Mahmoud – Member / College of Nursing – University of Mosul
• Lect. Dr. Rayan Ibrahim Khalil – Member and Supervisor / College of Nursing – University of Mosul

The session was marked by a fruitful academic discussion, during which constructive comments and recommendations were offered to enrich the content of the thesis and enhance its academic quality.

At the conclusion of the defense, the committee decided to award the student the Master’s degree in Nursing Sciences, subject to implementing the suggested revisions.

On this occasion, the Dean’s Office of the College of Nursing extended its heartfelt congratulations to the student, wishing her continued success in her academic and professional journey.
