Master’s Thesis Discussion on Enhancing Nurses’ Ability to Identify Elder Abuse

Under the patronage and presence of Assistant Professor Dr.Tahsein Muhsin Husseinn, Dean of the College of Nursing at the University of Mosul, the master’s thesis defense of student Mohammed Abdullah Ismail was held on the morning of Wednesday, July 16, 2025, in the discussion hall of the College of Nursing.
The thesis, titled
“The Effectiveness of an Educational Program in Enhancing Nurses’ Ability to Identify Elder Abuse and Improve Their Performance in Mosul Hospitals,”
falls within the college’s efforts to achieve the fourth Sustainable Development Goal (Quality Education). The study explored the impact of educational programs in improving the skills of nursing staff in detecting cases of elder abuse within healthcare institutions.
The results demonstrated the effectiveness of the proposed program in raising the awareness and professional performance of participating nurses.
The examination committee consisted of:
• Professor Dr. Nasr Mowafaq Youn – Chair / College of Nursing – University of Mosul
• Assistant Professor Dr. Ziyad Tareq Madallah – Member / College of Nursing – University of Nineveh
• Lecturer Dr. Nawaf Mohammed Dhahir – Member / College of Nursing – University of Mosul
• Assistant Professor Dr. Mahmoud Mohammed Ahmed – Member and Supervisor / College of Nursing – University of Mosul, who played a key academic role in guiding the student throughout the research process.
The session featured a rich and insightful academic discussion that covered various aspects of the study. Several valuable recommendations were provided to enhance the quality and depth of the research.
At the conclusion of the session, the committee approved granting the student a Master’s degree in Nursing Sciences, following the required revisions.
