Humanitarian Initiative

Under the direct supervision of the Dean of the College of Petroleum and Mining Engineering, Assistant Professor Dr. Maan Hassan Al-Majid, the college organized a humanitarian initiative in cooperation with the Student Activities Division / Volunteer Activities Unit to visit the Directorate of Labor and Social Affairs on Wednesday, 11 March 2026.

The visit included the Department for the Care of People with Disabilities and the State Home for the Elderly, with the participation of a number of faculty members and staff of the college. The initiative aimed to provide moral and humanitarian support to the residents, learn about their needs, and contribute to providing some essential supplies that help improve the level of services offered to them, reflecting the spirit of social solidarity and volunteerism.

During the visit, the delegation also reviewed the nature of the services provided by the Directorate to the groups under its care. They emphasized the importance of strengthening cooperation between academic institutions and government departments to support the most vulnerable groups and to promote the values of social responsibility among students.

This initiative comes in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 3: Good Health and Well-Being and Goal 10: Reduced Inequalities, through supporting and caring for vulnerable groups in society and promoting the principles of human solidarity.

At the conclusion of the visit, the Directorate’s administration expressed its appreciation and gratitude to the College of Petroleum and Mining Engineering and the University of Mosul for this humanitarian initiative, which reflects the societal role of academic institutions in serving the community.
