Publication of a Scientific Research Paper in a Prestigious International Journal

In a distinguished scientific achievement added to the record of the College of Petroleum and Mining Engineering, the Head of the Petroleum and Refining Engineering Department, Assist. Prof. Dr. Ahmed Abdul-Salam Abed, in collaboration with researchers from Al-Farabi University, Tikrit University, the University of Technology, and the University of Pannonia (Hungary), has published a scientific research paper entitled:

Experimental–Computational Parametric Response Mapping and Optimization of Electro-Demulsification of Heavy Crude Oil: Removal Efficiency and Specific Energy Performance Analysis

The research was published in the prestigious international Dutch journal Fuel, issued by the global publishing house Elsevier. The journal is ranked within the first quartile (Q1) and indexed in both Scopus and Clarivate databases. It holds an Impact Factor of 7.5 and a CiteScore of 16.3, reflecting its high scientific standing globally.

The study focused on developing an advanced electrochemical technique using a newly designed cell for the electro-demulsification of heavy crude oils, particularly Iraqi crude. It included experimental analysis and computational simulation to map parametric responses and optimize the efficiency of water and salt removal, in addition to evaluating the specific energy performance of the process. The research also examined the detailed behavior of demulsification mechanisms, contributing to improved processing efficiency and reduced energy consumption.

This achievement comes within the framework of supporting high-quality scientific research and enhancing the presence of Iraqi universities in international scientific platforms, in alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals—particularly Goal 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure) and Goal 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy).
