Regional Studies Center Seminar Addresses Environmental Pollution in Nineveh

Regional Studies Center / Continuing Education Unit, in cooperation with the Studies and Planning Department / Sustainable Development Unit, held a seminar on Sunday, April 12, 2026, titled “Environmental Pollution in Nineveh Governorate: A Study of the Causes and Sources of Pollution”. The seminar aimed to assess the environmental situation in the governorate, highlight the most significant sources of pollution, and propose scientific solutions grounded in sustainable development concepts.
The seminar covered several key themes, focusing on air pollution caused by industrial emissions and vehicle exhaust, water pollution resulting from the discharge of untreated waste, as well as soil pollution linked to solid waste and poor waste management practices. Participants also examined the health and economic impacts of these pollutants, emphasizing the need to enhance environmental awareness and enforce regulatory frameworks. Discussions underscored the importance of adopting sustainable policies that support the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 3 (Good Health and Well-being), Goal 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation), Goal 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), Goal 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), Goal 13 (Climate Action), and Goal 15 (Life on Land).
The seminar concluded with a strong emphasis on the importance of collaboration among academic, governmental, and community institutions to develop effective strategies for reducing pollution, thereby improving the environmental conditions in Nineveh and ensuring a more sustainable future for coming generations.
