Regional Studies Center Holds a Scientific Lecture on Combating Corruption and Achieving Sustainable Development

Regional Studies Center / Continuing Education Unit, in cooperation with the Department of Studies and Planning / Sustainable Development Unit, organized a scientific lecture on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, entitled “Combating Corruption and Its Role in Achieving Sustainable Development Goals,” delivered by Assist. Prof. Dr. Fares Turki Mahmood.
The lecture aimed to highlight the dangers of corruption and its negative impact on development and institutional stability, while emphasizing the importance of addressing the phenomenon through scientific research to limit its spread and promote integrity and transparency.
The lecture discussed corruption in terms of its causes and serious repercussions on society and development, stressing the need for effective scientific solutions. It also reviewed key mechanisms for combating corruption and strengthening transparency and integrity in support of the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 1 (No Poverty), Goal 4 (Quality Education), Goal 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), Goal 10 (Reduced Inequalities), and Goal 16 (Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions).
