International Day of Widows _ College of law

The College of Law at the University of Mosul has been achieving community communication by recalling international days related to the life of the individual and society

Among these days is the International Day of Widows, which falls on June 23 of each year, which aims to make their voices heard, i.e. widows, and to publicize their experiences and provide the support they need. After losing a partner, women struggle to secure many basic needs and protect their human rights and dignity

The College of Law, University of Mosul, believes in the multiple needs of a widowed woman who has lost her partner, and from this standpoint, it stresses the need to provide information to widows regarding their access to their legitimate rights, which many internal laws referred to in inheritance, pensions and social protection, as well as their right to decent work and equal pay. and educational and training opportunities to enable them to support themselves and their families

The waves of displacement, displacement and armed conflicts that the world witnessed, as well as the spread of epidemics, especially the Corona pandemic, have negatively affected an increase in the number of widows and what they suffer from unfavorable economic and social conditions, and on this occasion the Faculty of Law calls on the relevant state institutions to exercise their role in order to provide support for this segment. The fragile situation in society and its empowerment within a clear-cut policy that takes into account the conditions experienced by our dear country, which left significant numbers of widows, as estimates indicate that there are eight million widows in various parts of Iraq, which constitutes 65% of the number of Iraqi women and may constitute 80% of married women are between the ages of twenty and forty
