Its importance is to shed light on the rights, needs and dreams of refugees and helps mobilize political will and resources so that refugees can succeed and not just survive. While it is important to protect and improve the lives of refugees every day, international events such as World Refugee Day help shift global attention towards the plight of refugees. For those fleeing conflict or persecution, many of the activities that take place on World Refugee Day provide opportunities to support refugees, and the first celebration of this day worldwide returns for the first time on June 20, 2001, on the occasion of the fiftieth anniversary of the 1951 Convention relating to the Status of Refugees. That day was previously known as African Refugee Day, before the United Nations General Assembly officially designated it as an International Day for Refugees around the World in December 2000

On World Refugee Day, which it celebrates under the slogan “Together we recover, learn and shine”, the United Nations called to support refugees around the world, provide them with protection, and include them in health care, education and sports systems.

The UNHCR said that it seeks to expand the ability of refugees to access primary and secondary health care, and mental health services, and to enable refugee children to access quality education so that they can pursue a better life.
