The Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights in Nineveh discusses prospects for cooperation with the Deanship of the Faculty of Law / University of Mosul, in promoting human rights values and principles

The official of the Monitoring, Reports and Complaints Division, the official of the Studies and Research Committee and the official of the right to education file in our office visited the Deanship of the College of Law at the University of Mosul, and the Continuing Education Unit in the college.
Where the meeting took place with Dr. Wissam Nemat Al-Saadi (Dean of the College), Dr. Ali Muhammad Reda, responsible for the unit (continuing education), Dr. Abdel Aziz Al-Khattabi – Head of the Human Rights Law Branch, and Dr. Ziyad Abdel-Wahhab – Head of the Department (Postgraduate Studies in the College), and a mechanism for cooperation was discussed. The joint coordination includes the implementation of educational workshops that combine the academic theoretical aspect with the practical aspect based on field indicators monitored by the teams of the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights in Nineveh.
It was discussed – the possibility of conducting field visits to our office headquarters including (primary school students and postgraduate students) to familiarize them with the mechanism of our office work in receiving complaints and appeals and in monitoring violations and taking action to address them, in accordance with the mechanisms of the Commission’s work stipulated in its Law No. 53 of 2008.
The Deanship of the College expressed its desire to involve file officials in our office in educational workshops related to human rights, as well as attending research discussions, master’s theses, and doctoral theses related to human rights files.
A cooperation mechanism was also discussed to provide legal advice to (vulnerable) groups of women, children and people with disabilities, and to empower women, being at the heart of the tasks of our office and my commission from the first year of its establishment, and we have many success stories in these files.
