A panel discussion entitled Syriac calligraphy is an embodiment of creativity and originality

Under the patronage of Prof. Dr. Qusai Kamal Al-Din Al-Ahmadi, President of the University of Mosul, and in the presence of Dr. Yasmine Abdul Karim, Dean of the College of Archeology, Dr. Muhammad Afin, Dean of the Faculty of Arts at the University of Mosul, His Holiness Father Raed Adel, and Dr. Wissam Nemat Ibrahim Al-Saadi, Dean of our college, our college hosted on Wednesday, August 9, 2023, the seminar tagged Syriac calligraphy is an embodiment of creativity and originality, which began with a video presentation about the town of Alqosh, its historical monuments, urban monuments and artistic heritage, especially with regard to calligraphy and sculpture on the walls of sites Archaeological and heritage in addition to calligraphy, decoration and sculpture on cork, wood, Halan and alabaster The biography of the Mosuli calligrapher Boutros Qasha and his role and family in caring for calligraphy of all kinds and types and contributing to the training of many cadres interested in calligraphy were also touched upon.The seminar witnessed a number of lectures that dealt with the Syriac language and its adoption in the translation of the Bible in the early centuries, which was presented by Father Dr. Ghazwan Shahara, in which he dealt with the literature of the Aramaic language and its stages of development through the ages and the languages that emerged from it, especially the Syriac language, which is an extension of the Aramaic language, indicating the role of peoples in the linguistic change that occurs in languages and the resulting diverse dialects, then Mr. Amer Al-Jumaili gave a lecture in which he dealt with the phrases and inscriptions Syriac and Arabic on the facades of Mosul heritage houses, where the linguistic texts used in architecture were addressed, referring to the Syriac writing and the types of calligraphy used in it, referring to the craft of naqara on stones, marble, lime and plaster, presenting different models of Syriac and Arabic texts that exist until now in houses belonging to Mosul families . Then Dr. Moaz Habash Khader presented his scientific lecture tagged Academic Studies of Oriental Dialects / Reality and Ambition, in which he touched on the increasing interest of the Faculty of Archeology at the University of Mosul in Eastern dialects as one of the scientific foundations that are relied upon in the transfer of human civilization in all its features, referring to the Faculty of Archeology’s endeavor to open a specialized branch in oriental languages, then the honorable attendance of researchers, academics, calligraphers, artists and representatives of civil society organizations directed many questions and inquiries on the subject of the workshop The above workshop represents the societal role of the University of Mosul in the context of its cultural interaction, which contributes to the preservation of human heritage in all its aspects, in addition to the interaction of our college and its basic contribution to knowledge communication, which community participation is one of its forms and forms in the context of preserving the knowledge heritage in its various forms.
