On Wednesday, October 18, 2023, the Human Rights Law Branch at the College of Law at the University of Mosul discussed a master’s thesis on the enforcement of international human rights conventions in countries with totalitarian regimes. Part of it was attended by Assistant Professor Dr. Wissam Nemat Ibrahim Al-Saadi, Dean of the College, and a number of College Council members and faculty.
The thesis submitted by student Quba Iyad Khalil in the Human Rights Law branch addressed the importance and sensitivity of human rights in the international community, as with the differences in governance and political systems around the world, countries with totalitarian regimes face special challenges with regard to the enforcement of international human rights conventions, as the totalitarian regime is considered As a political system in which power is concentrated in the hands of a small number of individuals or a specific group, widespread violations of human rights occur in such countries as a result of the absence of democracy and the decline of the rule of law.
The message aims to explain the meaning of totalitarianism, which means a political system that controls all areas of life in society and not just a system of government, and that this system will not continue until it destroys a person’s public life and destroys his political energies, using the method of isolation. The message also indicated that totalitarian regimes are a form It is a form of political organization that is based on dissolving all individuals, institutions and groups into a whole through violence and terrorism. This whole represents the one leader who gathers all the powers in his hands. He is often a charismatic figure who has a magical power to attract the masses, which is why they call him the leader.
The discussion committee was chaired by Assistant Professor Dr. Muhammad Nazem Daoud, the membership of Assistant Professor Dr. Soha Hamid Salim, Assistant Professor Dr. Shaima Abdel-Sattar Jabr, and the membership and supervision of Professor Dr. Khalaf Ramadan Muhammad.
