Scientific workshop

Under the patronage of Professor Dr. Qusay Kamal al-Din al-Ahmadi, President of the University of Mosul, and under the supervision of Assistant Professor Dr. Wissam Nemat Ibrahim al-Saadi, Dean of the College of Law, the Women’s Empowerment Committee in our college, in cooperation with the Human Rights Law Branch and the Women’s Empowerment Unit at the Presidency of the University of Mosul, held the scientific workshop on Wednesday, November 29, 2023. (Women in Governorate Council Elections), whose sessions were moderated by Dr. Soha Hamid Salim, Chair of the Women’s Empowerment Committee in our college, where Dr. Sahar Muhammad Naguib presented her research paper entitled The Legal Basis for Women’s Participation in Governorate Council Elections, in which the constitutional basis for elections was addressed, especially since the Constitution is The supreme law of the state is what determines its form, bodies, institutions, and authorities, in addition to its guarantee of public rights and freedoms, including the right to vote, which is one of the political rights guaranteed constitutionally, as every Iraqi citizen has the right to participate in the elections without discrimination. I also addressed, with explanation and clarification, the legal axis related to the legislation that organizes the elections and determines the necessary conditions. It is available to those who have the right to nominate and elect. Then Dr. Hala Ahmed Mohamed presented her paper in which she addressed the social, cultural, and political obstacles to women’s participation in elections, which may be social obstacles related to the family, societal obstacles related to society, or cultural obstacles related to the prevailing culture, and they may be political obstacles related to the extent of women’s ability to take office. Public positions. Then, Dr. Hoda Hadi Mahmoud presented her paper in which she addressed the importance of the role of women in political participation, as women are considered one of the basic pillars of societal construction, in addition to the fact that their participation is one of the constitutionally guaranteed mechanisms of democratic action, in addition to the fact that societal growth depends on sustainable development and contribution to decision-making, in addition. The role of women in cultural and political interaction as one of the pillars of society. The workshop witnessed a distinguished presence of the dean of the college, the members of the college council, its scientific and administrative staff, and its students, who asked many questions and inquiries about the topic of the workshop. They were answered in detail by those in charge of it, and then the dean of the college presented certificates of appreciation. To the workshop management and its researchers, in appreciation and appreciation for their distinguished efforts in establishing this activity, which comes within the series of scientific, research, cultural, and student activities of our college during the current academic year 2023-2024.
