Scientific Symposium

Under the patronage of Professor Dr. Qusay Kamal al-Din al-Ahmadi, President of the University of Mosul, and under the supervision of Assistant Professor Dr. Wissam Nemat Ibrahim al-Saadi, Dean of the College of Law at the University of Mosul, and the members of the College Council, the Private Law Branch was established in our college on Wednesday, December 20, 2023, in cooperation with the Continuing Education Unit and the Directorate of Narcotics and Substances Affairs. Mental/Nineveh Scientific symposium tagged drugs and their impact on marital life in Iraq, whose sessions were moderated by Professor Dr. Yasser Bassem Thanoun. The symposium witnessed the presentation of a number of lectures and research papers by officers of the Directorate of Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances Affairs in Nineveh and college teachers, which dealt with the definition of drugs and psychotropic substances and an explanation of their concept and types. Which may be natural or manufactured, and their various effects on the health of the individual, methods of using them, and their repercussions at the family and societal levels, with reference to preventive means to reduce them, the position of legal legislation on them, and the role of health institutions in treating their addicts and abusers, with an explanation of the two main work of the Directorate of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Affairs, represented by the educational axis, in cooperation with State departments and institutions, interaction with society and its various segments, and the investigative focus in accordance with the laws and legislation in force, with an explanation of the causes of drug abuse and psychotropic substances, of which family disintegration, bad friends, and uncontrolled emotion are at the forefront, as well as the role of social media in promoting it using different names, such as cosmetics, for example, or therapeutic medical drugs. The importance of purchasing medical medications from pharmacies and stores subject to the supervision of official agencies in accordance with government laws and instructions was also emphasized, as well as reference to the hotline 178, which can be contacted and used to report any case related to drugs and psychotropic substances. The workshop also addressed the impact of drugs and psychotropic substances on the marriage contract. Which is considered the first step in building the family, which is considered the basic building block of society, with reference to the official procedures required by the legislator to complete the marriage contract, as well as addressing its impact on guardianship and the extent of the possibility of abolishing it, with an explanation of the extent of its impact on the divorce issued within its reach, with reference to the opinion of jurisprudence on that, as well as its relationship with regard to custody and the extent to which it can be dropped if harm is caused to the child in custody, and its role with regard to marital obedience or lack thereof. The workshop witnessed a remarkable presence of researchers, academics and legal experts who asked many questions and inquiries about the topic of the workshop, which were answered in detail by those in charge of it. Then Assistant Professor Dr. Wissam Nemat delivered a speech. Ibrahim Al-Saadi, Dean of the College, gave a speech in which he praised the role of the Private Law Branch in holding this activity, which comes within the series of scientific, cultural and student activities of our College aiming to shed light and provide solutions for any situation or phenomenon that may pose a threat to the security of society and the safety of its members. Then the Dean of the College presented certificates of appreciation to the President. The members of the preparatory committee and the researchers in appreciation and appreciation for their efforts in organizing this activity, which comes within a series of our college’s activities for the current academic year 2023-2024.
