Scientific lecture on the right to education

Under the auspices of Assistant Professor Dr. Wissam Nemat Ibrahim Al-Saadi, Dean of the College of Law at the University of Mosul, and in the presence of the members of the College Council, its teachers, its administrative staff, and undergraduate and graduate students, and in cooperation with the UNESCO Chair at the University of Mosul, the College of Law at the University of Mosul hosted on Tuesday, May 28, 2024, Dr. Kelsey Shanks, Director of the Chair. UNESCO at the University of Ulster/Northern Ireland and the international expert in the field of education and peace research, who gave a lecture on the right to education as a right and not a privilege that includes all groups without exception. Therefore, there are obligations on states to provide it to everyone, especially since this right is considered one of the fundamental rights stipulated in it. International instruments and conventions, internal laws and legislation, in addition to national constitutions. The lecture also touched on the concept of this right and the extent of its connection to societal awareness, while clarifying the role of educational curricula and their relationship to the prevailing societal culture, with the necessity of making education available at all levels to all members of society without discrimination. The lecture highlighted the tireless efforts of the UNESCO and UNICEF organizations. In the context of their work aimed at providing education and its means and guarantees to ensure its availability to all, the lecture witnessed Dr. Wissam Nemat Ibrahim Al-Saadi delivering a speech in which he welcomed the guests and the honorable audience, indicating the role of our college in communicating with national and international scientific, research and academic institutions and hosting international figures within the Visiting Chair Program. In conclusion, he directed The audience had many questions and inquiries about the topic of the lecture, which were answered in detail by those in charge of it.
