Training workshop

Under the patronage of Professor Dr. Qusay Kamal Al-Din Al-Ahmadi, President of the University of Mosul, and under the supervision and attendance of Assistant Professor Dr. Wissam Nemat Ibrahim Al-Saadi, Dean of the College of Law at the University of Mosul, and a number of members of the College Council, our college hosted on Tuesday, September 3, 2024, Professor Sufyan Idris Muhammad, Director of the Civil Defense Division at the Presidency of the University of Mosul, who gave lectures on public safety from the dangers of fires and how to prevent them and the mechanism of using fire extinguishers. The lectures began by pointing out that most of the natural disasters on planet Earth are represented by floods, earthquakes and fires, explaining the concept of fire theory, its definition, its pillars, its causes, the types of flammable and combustible materials and their nature, indicating that extinguishing is the opposite of ignition due to the loss of one of its pillars/i.e. ignition, with an explanation of the types of fires that may be the result of chemical reactions, electrical short circuits, or misuse by the human element… etc. indicating that each type of fire has a specific type of extinguisher that may be specific to electrical fires that are used CO2 extinguishers, extinguishers for paper, wood and furniture containing powder, and extinguishers for flammable liquid materials containing foam, explaining that each type of extinguisher has different sizes, noting the need to examine them by specialists within the specified period. The lectures also touched on the emergency stairs and exits in buildings and the need to place signs indicating them, as well as the role of self-protection teams, each of which has specific duties and tasks in evacuating those present at the fire site, controlling and extinguishing fires. The lectures also referred to domestic fires, especially those related to cooking oils, where it was explained how to extinguish these fires by covering them with wet towels, noting the danger of using water to extinguish fires caused by cooking oils, provided that the second stage of extinguishing is to remove the gas regulator from the source of the fire. The lectures also indicated that the role of water in extinguishing fires is limited to cooling it without extinguishing it, and that/any water may be extremely dangerous for electrical fires. The lecture also referred to the distinguished role of the University of Mosul in cooperating with state departments and institutions. In controlling various fires, it is worth noting that the civil defense number is the toll-free number 115. The workshop also witnessed a distinguished presence of college members and its scientific and administrative staff who directed many questions and inquiries about the topic of the workshop, which were answered in detail by those in charge of it. In conclusion, the college deanship honored the lecturers with certificates of appreciation. This workshop comes within the plans of the deanship of our college and its programs in cooperation and communication with the colleges of the University of Mosul, its centers, departments and units, which contributes to the unification of university efforts in the context of its communication with state departments and institutions and achieving the basic goal of societal stability
