A doctoral thesis in the Public Law Department on the application of international humanitarian law to armed non-state actors,,,
On Tuesday, September 17, 2024, the Public Law Department at the College of Law at the University of Mosul discussed a doctoral thesis on the application of international humanitarian law to armed non-state actors, part of which was attended by a number of members of the College Council and its lecturers.
The thesis submitted by researcher Ahmed Abdul-Rasoul Jaafar discussed armed non-state actors who have become increasingly influential on contemporary international reality and have become one of the challenges facing international law, especially international humanitarian law, which has dealt with them in a narrower scope compared to its dealings with states, based on the will of the international community, which has placed many restrictions and obstacles in the way of any attempt to expand the scope of international dealings with armed non-state actors.
The thesis aims to show that the term non-state armed actors was not mentioned in any international agreement or declaration, but rather in some international resolutions and reports and has become common in research, including international humanitarian law research. The discussion committee was chaired by Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus Yahya, and the membership of Professor Dr. Khalaf Ramadan Muhammad, Professor Dr. Raqib Muhammad Jassim, Assistant Professor Dr. Khalida Dhnoon Marai, Assistant Professor Dr. Fathi Muhammad Fathi, and the membership and supervision of Assistant Professor Dr. Wissam Nimat Ibrahim.
