Master’s thesis in the Public Law Branch on the criminal protection of parents / a comparative study,,,
On Thursday, September 19, 2024, the Public Law Branch at the College of Law at the University of Mosul discussed a master’s thesis on the criminal protection of parents / a comparative study, part of which was attended by Professor Dr. Muhammad Siddiq Muhammad, Assistant Dean for Scientific and Student Affairs, and a number of members of the College Council and its lecturers.
The thesis submitted by researcher Kofan Muhammad Abdi in the Public Law Branch dealt with the criminal protection of parents that the law and legislation have added, as parents are the main pillar of the family, appreciating their position in education and care, as well as for the purpose of protecting them from any neglect, aggression or negligence, as the law threatens to punish anyone who deliberately neglects either of them and considers it an aggravating circumstance in the penalty that requires punishment to limit the persistence of any person, whether from the children or others, in the event of an assault on them.
The message aims to show that respecting and honoring parents’ rights is almost like obeying God, in addition to being an act of worship. The law also differentiates between the obligations of children and the obligations of the state. With regard to the obligations of children, it does not stipulate that the parents be incapacitated in spending, but only in a state of poverty and the son in a state of ease, while with regard to the obligations of the state in the Social Protection Law, physical disability and inability to work are stipulated according to medical reports in order to be included in social care and assistance provided by the state. The discussion committee was chaired by Assistant Professor Dr. Abbas Fadel Saeed, and the membership of Assistant Professor Dr. Osama Ahmed Mohammed and Assistant Professor Dr. Ali Adnan Yahya, and the membership and supervision of Assistant Professor Dr. Anas Mahmoud Khalaf.
