Cultural Seminar

Dr. Suha Hamid Salim and Dr. Ahmed Faris Idris / Human Rights Law Department at the College of Law at the University of Mosul participated on Thursday, September 26, 2024, in the work of the cultural seminar entitled International Humanitarian Law and Methods of Protecting Civilians in Times of Peace, War and Armed Conflict, which was held by the Human Rights Department at the Iraqi Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Antiquities in cooperation with the Nineveh Tourism Department, where our college lecturers presented research papers that dealt with a broad definition of the nature of international humanitarian law and how to protect civilians, where the parties responsible for protecting civilians in times of armed conflict were stated, with reference to possible precautions to limit the impact of hostilities on them, with reference to the role of actors in the field of humanitarian work and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in providing humanitarian protection for civilians, which is based in armed conflicts on solid foundations in international humanitarian law that defines rules and standards for managing armed conflicts, as it is rooted in the framework of collective security stipulated in the Charter of the United Nations and other international organizations.
The seminar witnessed the presence of governmental and community figures And university, journalistic and cultural figures who, at the end of the symposium, expressed their deep thanks and appreciation to those in charge of it, as it addressed an important topic that affects the security of the nation and the citizen, as well as its role in introducing human rights in general. The symposium administration also distributed certificates of appreciation to the participants.
