Master’s thesis in the Human Rights Law Branch on the international protection of the rights of future generations in light of the Sustainable Development Goals,,,
On Thursday, October 24, 2024, the Human Rights Law Branch at the College of Law at the University of Mosul discussed a master’s thesis on the international protection of the rights of future generations in light of the Sustainable Development Goals. Part of it was attended by Assistant Professor Dr. Wissam Nemat Ibrahim Al-Saadi, Dean of the College, and a number of members of the College Council and its instructors.
The thesis submitted by researcher Fanar Khaled Muhammad in the Human Rights Law Branch dealt with the development of international law that led to the emergence of new concepts that were not clear until recently, such as the idea of the rights of future generations, as this concept is closely related to environmental conservation, and the concept of future generations is very close to the idea of the common heritage of humanity that must be preserved and passed on to future generations.
The message aims to show that preserving future generations is essential to achieving sustainable development. This idea has received international recognition, but not to the extent required, as it is still looking for a legal basis for it, and no agreement or charter has specified who the future generations are. The discussion committee was chaired by Professor Dr. Abdulaziz Ramadan Ali, and the membership of Assistant Professor Dr. Suha Hamid Salim, Assistant Professor Dr. Hala Ahmed Muhammad, and the membership and supervision of Assistant Professor Dr. Shaima Abdul Sattar Jabr.
