Master’s thesis in the Public Law Branch on Community Service as an Alternative to Criminal Penalties,,,
On Sunday 18/11/2024, the Public Law Branch at the College of Law at the University of Mosul discussed a master’s thesis on community service as an alternative to criminal penalties. Part of it was attended by Professor Dr. Qusay Kamal Al-Din Al-Ahmadi, President of the University of Mosul, Assistant Professor Dr. Wissam Nemat Ibrahim Al-Saadi, Dean of the College, and a number of members of the College Council and its professors.
The thesis presented by researcher Khaled Sayedo Hassan in the Public Law Branch dealt with community service as one of the modern procedural alternatives to criminal penalties that aims to avoid placing the convict in prisons and its negative effects and work to rehabilitate him and reintegrate him into society again through a descriptive, analytical, comparative approach.
The thesis aims to demonstrate that alternative penalties to customary penalties are one of the ideal solutions to change the criminal awareness and thinking of individuals who commit crimes, but alternative penalties must be compatible with the crime committed, and penalties restricting freedom should not be completely dispensed with, especially in felonies and cases of criminal recidivism, with the possibility of finding alternative solutions for the two previous cases in the future. The discussion committee was chaired by Professor Dr. Khalil Youssef Jundi, and membership of Assistant Professor Dr. Israa Younis Hadi, Assistant Professor Dr. Zeina Zuhair Muhammad, and membership and supervision of Assistant Professor Dr. Anas Mahmoud Khalaf.
