A Master’s Thesis in the Human Rights Law Department on the Effectiveness of the United Nations Development Program in Combating Corruption and Promoting Foreign Investment: Iraq as a Model
On Thursday, May 8, 2025, the Human Rights Law Department at the College of Law at the University of Mosul discussed a Master’s thesis on the Effectiveness of the United Nations Development Program in Combating Corruption and Promoting Foreign Investment: Iraq as a Model. Part of the thesis was attended by Assistant Professor Dr. Rafel Hassan Hamid, Assistant President of the University of Mosul for Administrative and Financial Affairs; Professor Dr. Hiam Adel Ibrahim, Dean of the College of Science; Professor Dr. Abdulaziz Ramadan Ali, Dean of the College of Law; and several members of the College Council and faculty members.
The thesis, submitted by student Munir Ramzi Sultan in the Human Rights Law Department, addressed the United Nations Development Program, which plays a specialized and pivotal role in combating corruption. Corruption is one of the most significant obstacles to development, as corrupt practices in the management of funds divert development away from development. This means reallocating funds to other areas, thus hindering the effective enforcement of human rights. The thesis aims to demonstrate that the relationship between corruption and investment is clearly inverse, as high rates of corruption lead to a decline in foreign capital flows. The United Nations Development Program (UNDP) also relies on multiple strategies to combat corruption, including improving governance, enhancing transparency, and legislative reform. The discussion committee was chaired by Professor Raqeeb Mohammed Jassim, and included Assistant Professor Ziad Abdulwahab Abdullah and Assistant Professor Dr. Suhaib Khaled Jassim, with Professor Mohammed Younis Yahya as members and supervisor.
