Scientific Seminar

Dr. Ahmed Faris Idris, a lecturer in the Human Rights Law Department at the College of Law at the University of Mosul, participated on Wednesday, June 25, 2025, in a scientific seminar held by the College of Education for the Humanities, entitled “The Role of the Citizen in Combating Corruption.” His participation consisted of delivering a scientific lecture on the role of the Iraqi citizen in combating corruption. The Iraqi citizen is a fundamental element in combating corruption, as combating this phenomenon is not limited to government agencies alone, but rather requires conscious and effective community participation. The most prominent mechanisms and means that citizens can adopt are as follows:
1. Reporting corruption: Using official channels such as the Integrity Commission and the Financial Supervision Bureaus to submit complaints and reports on cases of corruption, while ensuring the protection of the whistleblower.
2. Participating in community oversight: By monitoring the performance of public institutions and exerting public pressure through the media and social media platforms to expose violations and transgressions.
3. Spreading a Culture of Integrity: Working to enhance community awareness of the values of transparency and accountability through civic initiatives and awareness-raising activities within schools, universities, and the local community.
4. Advocating for Legislation: Supporting efforts to enact and enforce laws that combat corruption and ensure transparency in the management of public funds.
5. Engaging in Civil Society Organizations: Participating in anti-corruption organizations that monitor and evaluate government performance. The above participation represents the distinctive role of our college’s deanship in motivating its members to participate in scientific, research, and cultural activities and events aimed at raising community awareness and combating corruption.
