A scientific workshop on the legal challenges of combating human trafficking

As part of the series of scientific, research, cultural, and student activities of the College of Law at the University of Mosul, and in its commitment to raising community awareness and disseminating legal culture among various segments and groups of society, the Continuing Education Unit at the College of Law, in cooperation with the Continuing Education Center at the University of Mosul Presidency, held a scientific workshop on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, entitled “Legal Challenges of Combating Human Trafficking.” The workshop featured lectures and research papers addressing the extent to which divine laws honor human beings and preserve their dignity and humanity, represented by the rights and obligations established by the divine legislator, represented by God Almighty. The workshop also addressed legal protection of the human person, which criminalizes any assault on the individual, their rights, and freedoms, as well as trafficking in them or their organs in any form. This is what the Iraqi legislator has established in the Iraqi Penal Code, as well as the Anti-Human Trafficking Law, in addition to the constitutional protection of the individual, family, and society stipulated in the Iraqi Constitution of 2005. The workshop also addressed international instruments, charters, and agreements. Acts that constitute an attack on human dignity are criminalized. The workshop was attended by college members and its academic and administrative staff, who raised numerous questions and inquiries about the workshop topic, which were answered in detail by the organizers.
