Under the patronage of the President of the University of Mosul, Professor Dr. Waheed Mahmood Al-Ibrahimi, and with the follow-up of Professor Dr. Abdul Aziz Ramadan Al-Khatabi, and under the supervision of Dr. Luqman Othman Ahmed, Head of the Psychological Counseling and Educational Guidance Unit in our college, the above-mentioned unit, in cooperation with the Directorate of Community Police, held on Sunday, August 10, 2025, a guidance workshop entitled:
“The Criminal Confrontation of Electronic Blackmail Crimes and the Role of the Community Police in Limiting Them.”

The workshop was managed by Assistant Professor Dr. Osama Ahmed Mohammed and included two main themes:

The first theme was delivered by Professor Dr. Talal Abdul Hussein Al-Badrani, addressing the criminal confrontation by the Iraqi legislator against electronic blackmail crimes. He reviewed the stance of the Iraqi legislator on this crime and its penalties, and proposed amendments to the provisions of the Iraqi Penal Code in a way that matches the seriousness of the crime.

The second theme highlighted “The Community Police and Their Role in Reducing Electronic Blackmail Crimes”, presented by Colonel Hazem Najm Abdullah from the Directorate of Community Police. He showcased cases of blackmail brought before their directorate, the mechanisms for addressing them, and effective methods to raise public awareness about the dangers of this crime.

Colonel Saad Ahmed Al-Hassan, Director of the Cybersecurity Division at the Ministry of Interior, discussed the role of cybersecurity in confronting this crime and the best ways to place obstacles in the path of computer and information system hackers, thereby equipping students and social media users with the knowledge and resilience to face any electronic breaches of their computers and phones.

The workshop witnessed numerous interventions from students and faculty members, who actively engaged with questions and inquiries about methods to avoid falling prey to online predators through social media.

This workshop comes as part of the program pursued by the Psychological Counseling and Educational Guidance Unit in our college, aiming to shed light on negative issues and phenomena that our dear students may face, as well as ways to confront and limit them, thereby enhancing their psychological and social resilience in dealing with such challenges.
