Master’s thesis discussion

On Wednesday, October 8, 2025, Hajar Muhammad Ali Aziz Elias’s master’s thesis was discussed at the College of Law, University of Mosul, entitled:
“The Problem of Prosecuting Child Combatants in Armed Conflicts.”
The thesis addressed the complex legal issue of children’s participation in armed conflicts, where they combine the description of victims deserving of protection with the possibility of being held accountable for actions committed during such conflicts. The study also highlighted the multiple roles of children, which are not limited to direct combat, but also include logistical, intelligence, and even digital roles.
The thesis aimed to analyze the dual status of children as victims and perpetrators, and to examine their criminal responsibility in an effort to find a legal framework that balances the requirements of justice and the protection of children’s rights.
