A field visit to the Great Mosque of al-Nuri and the Church of the Clock in Nineveh

The Human Rights Law Department, with the participation of a select group of its faculty, organized a field trip for fourth-year students to several religious sites in Mosul, including the Great Mosque of al-Nuri and the Church of the Immaculate Conception in the al-Bay’ah courtyard.
The visit included lectures entitled “International Protection of Religious Sites During Armed Conflicts,” presented by:
1. Dr. Suha Hamid Salim
2. Dr. Ahmed Fares Idris
In the presence of a number of college students, the lectures highlighted the concept of religious sites in international humanitarian law, their special importance, and the international legal mechanisms for their protection, particularly during armed conflicts, in accordance with the provisions of the Hague and Geneva Conventions and their relevant Additional Protocols. This visit comes within the framework of linking the theoretical and practical aspects, enhancing students’ legal awareness of the importance of respecting and protecting religious sites as part of the shared human heritage, and consolidating the values of coexistence and social peace, in line with the mission of the Faculty of Law to prepare legal professionals aware of human rights issues and international humanitarian law.
