Master’s thesis defense

On Monday, December 22, 2025, a master’s thesis by student Basem Saud Ma’youf Al-Barghash, entitled “The Role of the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq in Promoting Human Rights,” was discussed.

The thesis examined the role of the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) in promoting and protecting human rights, and the importance of evaluating its operational mechanisms in light of the changing circumstances in Iraq. It also highlighted the most prominent challenges and opportunities for improving the human rights situation, thereby contributing to the support of fundamental freedoms and enhancing human rights performance at both the national and international levels.

The study aimed to identify the nature of UNAMI’s role in the field of human rights, analyze the strategies and programs it adopts to address violations, and assess the impact of these efforts on improving the state of rights and freedoms in Iraq.

The examining committee consisted of:

At the conclusion of the examination, the committee commended the scholarly effort invested in the dissertation and the importance of its topic, recognizing its contribution to enriching legal and human rights studies related to the human rights situation in Iraq.
