PhD thesis in the public law _ College of law

The Public Law Branch at the College of Law at the University of Mosul discussed a doctoral thesis on the legal system for the rights of the coastal state / a study in the provisions of the international law of the sea on Wednesday, August 4, 2021

Part of it was attended by Assistant Professor Dr. Qidar Abdel Qader Saleh, Head of the Public Law Branch, and a number of members of the College Council and its professors

The thesis presented by the student Qahtan Yassin Attia in the branch of public law dealt with the seas, which constitute three quarters of the globe, and therefore are a major component of the planet and an environmental medium that is important in human life, as the seas are one of the sensitive topics in the field of international relations being a means of communication and a source Therefore, the dual nature of the function of the seas as a source of wealth and a source of external danger was and still is the most important concern in regulating the affairs of the seas

The study aims to demonstrate the strategic importance of the seas, which constituted a source of conflict between two opposing points of view. When some countries, supported by the opinions of some jurists, tried to claim the imposition of their sovereignty over the seas on the basis that the seas accept possession like that of the land regions, while other countries supported by them confronted an international jurisprudential trend. Searches for mutual interests between countries involved in the exploitation of the sea on an equal footing

The discussion committee was chaired by Prof. Dr. Muhammad Yunus Yahya, with the membership of Dr. Kamel Abdel Khalaf, Dr. Khalaf Ramadan Muhammad, Dr. Abdulaziz Ramadan Ali, Dr. Bashir Sabhan Ahmed, and the membership and supervision of Dr. Wissam Nemat Ibrahim Al-Saadi
