Scientific workshop on developments in international humanitarian law,,,
Under the patronage of Professor Dr. Qusay Kamal al-Din al-Ahmadi, President of the University of Mosul, and under the supervision and presence of Assistant Professor Dr. Wissam Nemat Ibrahim al-Saadi, Dean of the College of Law, and members of the College Council, the Human Rights Law Branch in our college held on Sunday, February 25, 2024, in cooperation with the International Committee of the Red Cross, the scientific workshop entitled ( Developments in international humanitarian law (which began with a speech by Dr. Wissam Nemat Ibrahim Al-Saadi, Dean of the College, in which he welcomed the guests and the honorable audience, appreciating the role of the International Committee of the Red Cross in its cooperation with scientific, research and academic institutions, including our college, which strives hard in the context of its interaction and communication with state departments and institutions and national civil society organizations. and international organizations to embody its societal goal by working to raise awareness and spread legal culture among the various groups and segments of society. Then the representatives of the International Committee of the Red Cross (Dr. Sinr Taha Darwish, Legal Advisor to the International Committee of the Red Cross and Professor Ahmed Abdel Sattar, Advisor to the International Mission of the Red Cross / Mosul Branch) gave two scientific lectures on ( The International Committee of the Red Cross / its mandate and activities in Iraq, and an introduction to international humanitarian law and the classification of armed conflicts) which are directed to primary study students. We explain in them the stages and history of the establishment of the International Committee of the Red Cross, which extends for approximately 160 years, and the period of its work in Iraq, which is approximately 42 years, with reference to its concept and reasons. Its origin, basic purpose, international emblems, meanings and connotations, along with a statement of its principles, field of work, scope and neutrality by not belonging to any party to the conflict, whether international or non-international. Also discussed were its bodies and employees, its legal status and approved principles, as well as its cooperation with organizations of a national and international humanitarian nature and memorandums of cooperation. Signed by it with trade union bodies, governmental institutions and community organizations, with a statement of its primary goal of providing humanitarian aid and protection. The workshop witnessed a remarkable presence of the college’s scientific and administrative staff, researchers, academics, students, and those interested in legal and humanitarian affairs. The honorable attendees also asked many questions and inquiries about the topic of the workshop, which were answered. It will be detailed by those in charge of it, and Monday, February 26, 2024, will witness the presentation of lectures for the second part of the above-mentioned workshop, which comes within the series of scientific, cultural, and student activities of our college during the current academic year 2023-2024.
