A scientific workshop on the role of local government in activating Environmental Protection and Improvement Law No. 27 of 2009,,,
Under the patronage of Professor Dr. Wahid Mahmoud Al-Ibrahimi, President of the University of Mosul, and under the supervision of Assistant Professor Dr. Wissam Nemat Ibrahim Al-Saadi, Dean of the College of Law and the members of the College Council, and with the follow-up of Assistant Professor Dr. Talal Abdul Hussein, Head of the Public Law Branch, the above branch, in cooperation with the Continuing Education Unit, held a scientific workshop on Thursday, November 28, 2024, entitled The Role of Local Government in Activating Environmental Protection and Improvement Law No. 27 of 2009. During it, Dr. Ikram Faleh Ahmed and Dr. Hassan Talal Younis presented two research papers that dealt with the local government’s authority to issue legislation, formulate policies, and exercise its oversight role, in addition to its work in drawing up an explanatory structure on how to impose penalties on activities practiced by natural and legal persons that cause damage to the environment. Reference was also made to the impact of the competencies of local governments in enhancing environmental protection and improvement and the administrative procedures related to its protection and improvement by referring to the issue of protecting and improving the environment, which is one of the most prominent issues that It concerns human life because of its connection to the public order and its impact on the public health element of individuals, especially since environmental pollution is one of the phenomena that has harmed the lives of individuals and the accompanying changes in its basic elements due to the industrial activities of individuals, which required the intervention of the legislator by issuing the Environmental Protection and Improvement Law. The workshop witnessed a distinguished presence of researchers, academics and lecturers who directed many questions and inquiries about the topic of the workshop, which were answered in detail by those in charge of it. At the end of the workshop, the Dean of the College distributed certificates of appreciation to the researchers in appreciation of their efforts in holding this workshop, which comes within a series of scientific, research, cultural and student activities for our college during the current academic year 2024-2025.
