Assistant Professor Dr. Wissam Nemat Ibrahim Al-Saadi, Dean of the College of Law at the University of Mosul, and a number of our college lecturers participated on Monday, February 10, 2025, in the meetings of the Expert Committee for Developing Human Rights Curricula in Non-Specialization Colleges, where the committee included in its membership, in addition to legal sciences specializations, political science, sociology, philosophy, and teaching methods. The best ways to present a proposal for human rights courses in non-specialization colleges were discussed in order to help the course instructors deliver it in a way that contributes to raising students’ levels towards positive interaction with this important subject. The committee’s work is the third phase within the program (Towards an Effective Curriculum for Human Rights) launched by the Center for Peacebuilding and Peaceful Coexistence at the University of Mosul. This was preceded by the first phase, which consisted of three training courses entitled Developing the Capacities of Human Rights Teachers in Non-Specialization Colleges, while the second phase was represented by a symposium entitled Human Rights Curricula in Educational Institutions. The committee approved the development of a roadmap for the committee’s work And distributing tasks to its members to develop the vocabulary of the human rights subject according to solid scientific foundations. Our college’s participation in the work of the above committee comes as it is a college specialized in studying national and international laws related to human rights and basic freedoms, which was crowned by the presence of the Human Rights Law Branch among its scientific branches, which is the first and only specialized scientific branch at the level of Iraqi universities that grants higher diploma and master’s degrees in the specialization of human rights laws. The college’s deanship also strives to achieve scientific communication and knowledge exchange of research and academic experiences in a way that contributes to advancing the scientific process in our beloved Iraq.
