A scientific symposium for the Private Law Department on the legal aspects of financial and personal transactions in the scope of social media,,,
Under the patronage of Professor Dr. Wahid Mahmoud Al-Ibrahimi, President of the University of Mosul, and in the presence of Professor Dr. Munir Salem Taha, Assistant President of the University of Mosul for Scientific Affairs, and under the supervision of Assistant Professor Dr. Wissam Nemat Ibrahim Al-Saadi, Dean of the College of Law and the members of the College Council, and under the slogan of a legal vision in the virtual world, the Private Law Department, in cooperation with the Continuing Education Unit, held its scientific symposium on Thursday, February 27, 2025, entitled The Legal Aspects of Financial and Personal Transactions in the Scope of Social Media, which has become an integral part of the individual’s daily life, as the rapid digital development has created new legal challenges related to financial and personal transactions. The symposium began with the playing of the national anthem of the Republic of Iraq, then Assistant Professor Dr. Wissam Nemat Ibrahim Al-Saadi, Dean of the College of Law, delivered his speech in which he welcomed at the beginning the representative of the President of the University of Mosul, Professor Dr. Munir Salem Taha, the members of the University of Mosul Council and the honorable attendees of Iraqi and Arab researchers and academics Explaining the role of scientific and technological developments that have produced many new aspects in the reality of human life that have had great impacts on our contemporary reality, touching on the importance of the symposium that addressed issues that require solutions and situations that need treatments, concluding his speech by appreciating the scientific, research and administrative efforts made to hold this symposium. Then, Mr. Ali Abdulghani Awni Al-Abbasi, representative of the National Security Service/Financial Intelligence Department, delivered his speech in which he welcomed the honorable attendees, praising the efforts made to hold this symposium, providing an overview of the role of the Financial Intelligence Directorate in combating financial crime, indicating the extent of the danger of various crimes and financial crimes on the stability of society and the security of its individuals. Then, a documentary film was shown about the symposium, its goals and foundations. Then, the opening session began, chaired by Professor Dr. Akram Mahmoud Hussein and Dr. Raeda Muhammad Mahmoud as rapporteur, which witnessed the presentation of a number of research papers that addressed the practical application of financial and personal transactions via social media before the Iraqi judiciary. Then, the work of the first session began, chaired by Mr. Dr. Ajyad Thamer Nayef and Professor Dr. Bushra Khaled Turki as rapporteur, which witnessed the presentation of a number of research papers that addressed the legal aspects of the personal content industry through social media platforms and financial transfers via the TikTok application and personal data governance/challenges of social media and ways to confront them and the contract of teaching the profession via social media, then the work of the second session began headed by Professor Dr. Yasser Basem Dhnoon and Assistant Professor Dr. Nada Mahmoud Dhnoon as rapporteur, which witnessed the presentation of a number of research papers that addressed the impact of social media on the conclusion of marriage and contracting with expressive symbols/emoji and the validity of potential evidence from publishing on Facebook and Twitter pages and the impact of friendship via social media on the principle of judge neutrality and trade via social media and social media payments and civil liability of commentators via social media. It is worth noting that the symposium is a highly important activity as it shed light on the legal challenges associated with the protection of personal data with a detailed review of the laws and regulations related to digital financial transactions, stating the importance of legal awareness among the public to ensure the safe use of social media The symposium resulted in many recommendations that were submitted to the concerned and beneficiary parties. In conclusion, this symposium comes within a series of scientific, research, cultural and student activities of our college during the current academic year 2024-2025.
