Master’s thesis in private law branch on alimony in private international law – College of law

On Monday, May 9, 2022, the Private Law Branch of the College of Law at the University of Mosul discussed a master’s thesis on alimony in private international law, part of which was attended by Assistant Professor Dr. Wissam Nemat Ibrahim Al-Saadi, Dean of the College and a number of members of the College Council and its teachers

The letter submitted by the student, Enas Ghanem Abed, addressed a very important topic related to the personal interests of individuals, which is represented in the obligation of alimony, which is a financial obligation that is obligatory in the Qur’an, Sunnah and law, and falls on the shoulders of the person who is required to perform it for the benefit of the other party, which is represented by the weak party in the legal relationship. It may be marital alimony or it may result from the end of the marriage and it may be between relatives from the origins or branches or the rest of the relatives and the judge may rule it when there is a circumstance of urgency as a result of this difference, it has resulted in a difference in conditioning, which led to a difference in the applicable law

The message aims to show that alimony is a legal obligation in accordance with the provisions of Iraqi law and most Arab laws that are subject to the provisions of Islamic Sharia, and it also includes an obligation on the husband for the benefit of the wife. As for foreign laws, this obligation is shared between the spouses

The discussion committee was chaired by Assistant Professor Dr. Wissam Tawfiq Abdullah, the membership of Assistant Professor Dr. Khalil Ibrahim Muhammad, the teacher Dr. Raya Sami Saeed, and the membership and supervision of Assistant Professor Dr. Badran Shakib Abdul Rahman
